Welcome to Studio Donegal

For over one hundred years a hand-weaving mill has existed in the Irish village of Kilcar.  Studio Donegal was founded in 1979 by Kevin and Wendy Donaghy with the goal of maintaining and preserving the long running tradition of hand-weaving in South West Donegal.  Today, thirty years later, the Studio enjoys its second generation of family ownership.

Studio Donegal is an important part of the region's social fabric providing employment directly to ten people and indirectly to many more. Many of the yarns used in our weaving operation are created in an adjacent spinning mill. 

Studio Donegal is also a significant tourist attraction.  We encourage visitors to come and see firsthand the skills involved in hand-weaving traditional Donegal Tweeds as well as the construction of garments from our finished cloths.   We produce contemporary men’s and women’s wear lines as well as a range of textiles for the home.
